English is the language of our country, a critical component of our national identity.    If we didn’t  speak English we wouldn’t  be the same country.
The primacy of  English  in the U.S.  is threatened today  by the growth of Spanish as a media, business and political language,   creating  an alternative  society with its own language.
This creeping bilingualism  threatens our common civic language of English.  After all, if politicians are lying in one language, it’s certainly easier to keep track of than if they are  speaking several languages!
Two of the forces promoting this creeping bilingualism are the
Spanish-language media networks Univision and Telemundo.

Is it right for students in a Spanish-language class in the U.S. to be required to recite the Mexican pledge of allegiance and national anthem?      That’s what occurred last month in Texas, and it was defended by the school administration.

The incident  took place in the “Achieve Early College High School”, located in McAllen, Texas, which lies just a few miles from the Mexican border.    The “Achieve Early College High School” is a type of high school which also offers college credit- the goal is to graduate from high school with an Associate’s degree.

In this intermediate Spanish class, taught by Mexican-raised Reyna Santos,  students were required to memorize the Mexican national anthem and the Mexican pledge of allegiance and to recite  them in  class.

One student,  15-year old Brenda Brinsdon, refused to do it.   Why?  As she explained,    “I just thought it was out of hand, I didn’t think it was right.  Reciting pledges to Mexico and being loyal to it has nothing to do with learning Spanish.”

What should we make of this?    Was  Miss Brinsdon   making a mountain out of a molehill?  Was it really just an exercise to study another culture?  What’s the big picture here?

Not only are drug cartels shooting up Mexico, they’re now north of the border. They are expanding in several states—notably Texas.

And it’s been happening under the watch of Texas Governor Rick Perry, who wants to be our president.

That’s the same Rick Perry who opposes a fence on the border and brags about giving benefits to illegal aliens.

Two reports have just been released that point out the gravity of the  infiltration by Mexican drug cartels.

The Mexican drug war rages on and the death toll continues to climb.   One grisly incident after another proceeds in a gruesome parade of violence and carnage.  You think you’ve heard it all, and then you read another outrage.

This past week, in Mexico’s northern city of Monterrey, 52 people perished in a fiery conflagration at a gambling establishment known as the Casino Royale.

Monterrey is one of Mexico’s most prosperous cities. Its residents, known as regiomontanos, exhibit a strong work ethic and are known for their industriousness and thriftiness.

In recent years, however, the security situation there has plummeted, with the Gulf Cartel and the Zetas fighting it out.

On August 25th, 2011, a Monterrey casino was set ablaze by criminals.

If you are an illegal alien in the U.S.A., your odds of being deported are distinctly slim.

In the fiscal year ending September 2010, the Obama Administration deported nearly 393,000 illegal aliens.

How many illegal aliens are in the country?  There are 11 million, according to a conservative estimate, though there might be as many as 20 million.

Even going by the 11 million estimate, that means that if 400,000 are deported, that’s less than 4% of the total illegal alien population.

That means the chances of an illegal alien being deported are very slim.

Nelson Hultberg of Texas has formed a new political party called the Conservative American Party. Now I know what a lot of people are going to say – “A Third Party?” In recent years, third parties haven’t picked up much traction and people feel they are throwing their votes away by voting them. So they wind up voting for the Republican candidate and get people like Bush or McCain.

Nelson Hultberg is aware of the Third Party Problem. His proposal is to utilize a strategy like that of Ross Perot in 1992, in order to get the candidate (probably Ron Paul) into the televised general debates.
