In the United States, “gay marriage” is now the law of the land in 6 states. Just last month, New York legalized it. As usual, the Republicans, who control the New York Senate, caved and  made it all possible.
In 31 U.S. states, “gay marriage” has been voted down in referendums, not once has it prevailed.  Yet it just doesn’t matter, as the Gay Agenda moves forward.

In Mexico. the Gay Agenda is also very strong, and getting stronger.   Mexico City now has “gay marriage”. It’s  been approved by the Mexican Supreme Court, which declared that all 31 states must recognize same-sex “marriages” performed in Mexico City (the Federal District).

Mexico is poorer than the U.S. But by world standards, it’s not a poor country.

Whether you follow the statistics of the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank or the CIA, Mexico’s Gross Domestic Product (calculated with Purchasing Power Parity) is around one and a half trillion dollars. Mexico thus has the world’s eleventh largest economy….

…. according to the Mexican government’s own official criteria, 44.2% of the population lives in poverty. Of this segment of the population, by the government’s own standards, around 10% live in “extreme poverty”.

One salient feature of the whole wealth and poverty issue in Mexico is the presence of super-rich Mexicans, including billionaires. (That’s dollar billionaires, not peso billionaires).

Mexico is home to the world’s richest man—telecom mogul Carlos Slim, who has his hand in all sorts of businesses in Mexico.

Mexico is awash in weapons, many of which are used in drug cartel violence.  This is a big problem, but much of the rhetoric on both sides of the border has been unhelpful and counterproductive.

Both Mexico’s Calderon administration and the U.S. Obama administration blame U.S. gun shops for the proliferation of guns in Mexico.  This concerns American firearms owners who think it may be used as an excuse to take away their gun rights.

Due to violence in Mexico, many Americans are now reconsidering whether or not they want to visit that country.

If enough Americans choose not to visit Mexico it could result in major losses of revenue for the Mexican tourism industry, which provides jobs for several million Mexicans. Even if Mexico suddenly became safer, it could take years to live down its image.

As Americans, we can learn a lot from other countries.

Don’t get me wrong—I firmly believe in American sovereignty. We ought to base our laws on our own Constitution and legal tradition.

However, we can still benefit from the examples, both positive and negative, set by other countries.

For example, we can learn a lot from Mexico about how to conduct a patriotic immigration policy and how to manage voter registration. (See Learning About Immigration Policy from Mexico and Why is Mexico’s Voter Registration System Better Than Ours?)

So what about automatic birthright citizenship? That’s the policy which grants automatic citizenship to children born to illegal aliens on U.S. soil.

“I keep straining my ears to hear a sound. Maybe someone is digging underground, or have they given up and all gone home to bed, thinking those who once existed must be dead.” –The Bee Gees, “New York Mining Disaster 1941”

Who can fail to be inspired by the recent rescue of 33 trapped miners in the South American nation of Chile? It was a story with a happy ending that captivated the world.

In the U.S., we have a presidential election each four years. That’s the election that gets the most publicity.

But in the middle of the presidential elections we have the midterm election. Though this gets less publicity and attracts fewer voters, it’s equally important, as it determines the composition of Congress, as well as state legislatures throughout the nation.

This year, 2010, midterm elections were held on November 2nd.

In the year 2010 Mexico celebrates both its Centennial and Bicentennial anniversaries.

The Bicentennial celebrates the 1810 beginning of what became the Mexican Independence Movement, with Miguel Hidalgo’s famous “Grito” (Cry) reenacted on the night of September 15th, 2010.

By an amazing historical coincidence, calendar year 2010 is both a centennial and bicentennial for Mexico. This is great for students, as it’s a mnemonic device to help them remember dates! And as you might well imagine, it leads to 2010 being a great national celebration for Mexico
