We arrived in Mexico for a family visit several days after Mexico agreed to crack down more on hordes of non-Mexicans passing through the country to the United States, in exchanged for Trump not imposing tariffs.
So is the deal having an effect? Well, Mexico has taken more action to control illegal immigration. It’s still too early how effective it’s going to be in the long term. But Trump needs to monitor the situation.

President Trump called off his threat to put tariffs on Mexican imports until Mexico stops the massive movement of non-Mexicans crossing through Mexico to get to the United States.
Instead, Mexico and the U.S. have made an agreement.
So who wins, and who loses. That depends on what occurs next….

Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on Mexico.
The President announced it in a tweet on May 30th which said the tariffs would be imposed “until such time as illegal migrants coming through Mexico, and into our country, STOP.” (Twitter source here).
The tariff threat certainly got the attention of the government of Mexico, and Foreign Minister Ebrard was dispatched to negotiate in Washington.
Also, Mexico is cracking down more on the hordes of non-Mexicans crossing its territory to get to the United States. It even stopped a caravan at the Guatemalan border.
This means that Trump needs to keep up the pressure. The U.S. cannot allow Mexico to be a wide open gate for the whole world to enter the United States.

President Trump has threatened a 5% tariff on all Mexican goods beginning on June 10th “until such time as illegal migrants coming through Mexico, and into our Country, STOP. “
Is the Tweeter-in-Chief really going to do it this time, or back down?
I don’t know, but the Mexican government takes this very seriously and is working to stop it. And I would not underestimate the skill of the Mexican government in these negotiations.

The individual at the center of the “2019 College Admissions Bribery Scandal” is William “Rick” Singer.
Singer helped applicants get into elite colleges by using bribery and fraud. But one of the less-publicized methods that Singer used was to counsel white applicants to identify as minorities, thus helping their chances of getting into college.
But if “white privilege” is a thing, why would Singer do that?
In fact, Singer told at least some applicants that identifying as white would put them at a “competitive disadvantage”. That’s very telling. And when it comes to college admissions, Singer knows what he’s talking about.
Maybe the reason that technique is not being emphasized is that it would bring more attention to the even bigger and legally-supported form of discrimination known as “Affirmative Action”, which discriminates against whites.
