The drug wars continue in Mexico, with over 50,000 killed since 2006. And Mexico, like the U.S., is having a presidential election this year.

In the midst of this, there’s news of a surprising Mexican poll showing significant support for U.S. intevention in Mexico.   Is that a good idea?

Several months ago I had a VDARE.COM article entitled “Department of Labor’s Hilda Solis to American Farmers – Replace your Nephew with an Illegal Alien!”   It’s about the meddlesome system of changes in regulation designed to make it harder for young people to work on family farms.  These rules would not have been voted on in Congress, but unilaterally handed down by the same Department of Labor, run by Hilda Solis, that encourages illegal alien labor.

Well, after plenty of protest by informed farm folk who made their voices heard, the Department of Labor has withdrawn the proposed rule changes.  This is an example of how citizens can make a difference…

On Sunday, May the 6th, the four Mexican presidential candidates squared off in a televised debate.  My wife and I watched it live on the Internet, and I took notes.  My impression was that the debate was informative, that is, a good forum for the candidates to express their views.  And it was actually entertaining.

The Census Bureau has reported that, as of 2010, 13% of all residents of the U.S.  were foreign-born.   That’s the highest such percentage since 1920, but of course the absolute quantity is now much higher.   Note too that 1920 was just a few years before the great immigration cutoff and pause.  Isn’t it time for another cutoff in legal immigration?

In Tulsa, Oklahoma, during the early hours of April 6th,  two men, Jacob England and Alvin Watts, entered a predominantly black neighborhood and started shooting people.   They shot 5 black people, 3 of whom died.

Police arrested the perpetrators two days later.  They confessed and were charged with three counts of first degree murder and two counts of shooting with intent to kill.

It looks like an  open and shut case.  These guys look guilty as sin and if convicted  could get the death penalty.

The way the case is being spun by the Main Stream Media and exploited by the usual suspects is, however, quite telling.

It raises the question – in today’s America  is it worse to be a murderer or a “racist”?    And who defines the term “racist”?

Exactly one hundred years ago, April 15th, 1912, RMS Titanic sank in the North Atlantic. The tragic and fascinating story of Titanic has captivated the public for a century and its centennial is being commemorated in various ways.

The Titanic story could be a Shakespearean  tragedy—about a magnificent, state-of the-art vessel, the world’s largest at that time, on its maiden voyage, bearing representatives  of the British and American upper crust. Tragic flaws, however, brought the ship through a danger area at too high a speed. Her collision with an iceberg brought her down, with over 1500 deaths.

On March 30th the 2012 Mexican presidential election campaigns officially began.

Yes, the candidates had already been chosen, and yes they were already being sized up by the Mexican electorate, and yes they were doing things related to campaigning. But, based on the strict rules laid down by Mexico’s IFE (Instituto Federal Electoral), they were not supposed to officially campaign.

On March 30th, however, they were allowed to officially begin their campaigns. And they started off with a bang.

“Explicit attitudes of xenophobia and discrimination toward immigrants, and intolerance toward the cultural diversity of our country.”

That was a government agency’s recent summary of what a poll of citizens found.

The  poll was in Mexico—and the government agency was Conapred, the “Consejo Nacional para Prevenir la Discriminación” (National Council For The Prevention Of Discrimination).

Recently on VDARE.com, I discussed the Puerto Rican question in an article entitled ¡Viva Puerto Rico Libre! Free Puerto Rico (and the U.S.) Now!

My position is that Puerto Rico is a distinct society and should not become the 51st state of the U.S.A.    Instead, it should be granted its independence.

My column received a lot of publicity thanks to an article about it posted on the website of El Nuevo Día, Puerto Rico´s most widely read newspaper.

The floodgates were opened, and I received e-mails from Puerto Ricans on the island and on the mainland.  I got mail from  from pro-statehood Puerto Ricans, pro-independence Puerto Ricans, Puerto Ricans who support the status quo, and a few who seem to be open to anything.

I’d like to say thank you to all of them.
