Spring break in Mexico is an annual tradition. And the past few years have seen a new, related tradition – a warning by the government of Texas against traveling to Mexico during spring break.

A Mexican NGO (non-governmental organization) called the Consejo Ciudadano para la Seguridad Pública y Justicia Penal, A.C. (Citizen Council for Public Security and Penal Justice) researches crime statistics.
The group has released its report of the most violent municipios in Mexico in the year 2014.
A municipio is not equivalent to a municipality in the United States.

The biggest Spanish-language newspaper in the United States is La Opinión, based in Los Angeles, and currently owned by the Argentine newspaper La Nación.
La Opinión has been going ballistic over the Hanen ruling. On the 17th of February it published an editorial on the decision. Its over-the-top rhetoric illustrates the mentality of Hispanic activists who will be satisfied with nothing less than an open border for all Latin Americans, with full benefits of course.

The decision was handed down at 10:22 on the night of February 16th. By the 17th, the very next day, it had already been publicly vetoed by Mexican and Central American governments. The Mexican government, and other governments, like it or not, already have a lot of say in U.S. immigration policy, though they are seldom criticized over this influence, certainly not by congressional Republicans.

The much-ballyhooed opening of U.S.-Cuban relations, announced simultaneously by Barack Obama and Raul Castro in December, haven’t really amounted to much yet.
But it has created a stir among Cubans, who fear that regularization of relations might lead to – gasp – Cubans being treated like other immigrants to the United States. After years of their special status, Cubans don’t like that idea very much.
