In a brash display of chutzpah, MALDEF (The Mexican-American Legal Defense and Educational Fund) has publicly called for the removal of Acting ICE Director Thomas Homan.
Why? Because Homan has called for the prosecution of officials who oversee “sanctuary polices” which defy federal law and protect illegal aliens.
What’s amazing is the illogical logic MALDEF uses to justify its position. Amazing, but not surprising. Obviously, MALDEF is part of the powerful lobby that doesn’t want our immigration laws enforced.

There are problems with voter registration in the United States, though the Mainstream Media claims there are not. President Trump set up an election integrity commission to study these problems.
As I reported in a blog entry a few days ago, the commision was kept from doing much by being the target of lawsuits. See my blog entry here, published January 1st, 2018, on VDARE.COM.
A few days later, Trump dissolved the commission. See my blog here, published January 4th, 2018, on VDARE.COM.
My solution would be to allow states to enact Mexican-like voter registration systems. Mexico has a good voter registration system.

On New Year’s Day 2018, the day California’s sanctuary state status comes into effect, some unkown individuals very ingeniously put some official-looking signs under highway signs welcoming motorists to California.
The signs welcome “Felons, Illegals and MS13” to California.
And why not? That’s what California is doing.

La Opinion is the biggest Spanish-language newspaper in the United States. My latest Said in Spanish installment discusses three recent articles from La Opinion‘s website:
I. An article criticizing President Trump for opposing chain migration.
II. An article about a couple who has been in the United States after twenty-eight years (although the section heading says thirty years it’s actually twenty-eight years.
III. A new book out, telling illegal aliens why they might get deported.

NOTE: In the section about the second article, there is a little photograph (actually from another article not by me), which uses the term “idiots”. I don’t like to use that term and had nothing to do with putting it there.

The central Mexican town of Malinalco was recently the subject of three simultaneously-published article in the Los Angeles Times. Specifically, the three articles dealt with the problems and challenges of three Malinalco families:
I. A couple who lived in the United States for several decades and returned to Malinalco with their U.S.-born children.
II. A Malinalco native who was deported from the U.S. and returned to Malinalco, followed by his family.
III. A young Malinalco man who would work in the U.S. and return to Malinalco, leaving his family in Malinalco.
The three situations are very informative and show us the challenges, problems and dangers associated with immigration in one Mexican town. They give us a view from the other side of the border, which is useful. They show us complications of the immigration phenomenon, and can help us make the right decisions regarding U.S. immigration policy.

The Trump Administration has launched a campaign to end chain migration, the nepotistic system by which most legal immigrants enter our country simply because they are related to somebody who already got in.

Tourism is a very important industry in Mexico. In calendar year 2016, 35 million foreigners visited Mexico, making it the eighth-most visited country in the world.
Some reports about tourism this year though give cause for alarm.

For many years, the United States has had slipshod systems of voter registration. Many states have passed laws to improve the situation, which are attacked as “disenfranchising” voters.
The solution? Adopt voter registration systems like that of Mexico.
