The Mexican National Guard (Guardia Nacional) is the national gendarmerie. A gendarmerie is a military force with law enforcement duties. Some examples are the French Gendarmerie Nationale, the Italian carabinieri and the Guardia Civil in Spain.
The Mexican Guardia Nacional was formed in 2019 by combining units and officers from the Federal Police, Military Police and Naval Police.
The Mexican National Guard has added a new soldier to its forces – a Chihuahua dog called “Comando Chihuahua”.
