Some Americans are afraid to visit Mexico, given the ongoing and well-publicized drug cartel violence. On the other hand, millions of Americans still do visit and aren’t victims of crime.
This is not a merely academic issue for me: I take my family to visit Mexico twice a year. (For my most recent trip, click here.) We’re planning our next trip very soon.
I neither encourage nor discourage Americans from visiting Mexico. They can make their own decisions. But I think it’s useful to see the whole picture – not only about Mexico, but about the United States and how it may be viewed by prospective tourists from other countries.
